Description
Seldin Periosteal Elevators
The Seldin periosteal elevator is a long-standing oral surgery pattern with a broad, curved blade. Surgeons use it to lift gingiva and periosteum from bone before extractions, implant placement or grafting. This listing offers two versions, the #23 and a Mini, so you can match the blade to the space you have.
A Broad Blade for Clean Reflection
Because the Seldin blade is wide, it spreads force across more tissue than a narrow periosteal. As a result, flaps tend to lift in one piece rather than tearing. The curve also follows the contour of the ridge, so the edge stays on bone.
Choosing the #23 or the Mini
- #23: the classic Seldin size, listed in our supplier catalogue as Seldin 23. It suits full flaps and larger surgical areas.
- Mini: a reduced Seldin pattern for narrow sites, single tooth implants and areas next to existing teeth.
Many surgeons keep both. Then the Mini handles the delicate starting point, while the #23 finishes wide reflection.
Working Around Implants and Extractions
First, insert the blade at the incision line with the concave side toward bone. Next, use short strokes to lift the tissue evenly. In extraction cases, the Seldin also helps free the gingival attachment before forceps are applied. However, avoid levering against thin bone, since that is not the purpose of a periosteal.
Inspection, Warranty and First Use
Both versions are inspected in the United States before shipping. They come with our guarantee of three years against manufacturing defects on the blade and handle. Since the elevators are delivered non-sterile, wash and sterilize them before their first procedure.
The stainless steel meets ASTM F899. Explore our maxillofacial surgery instruments, compare it with the Molt Periosteal Elevators, or open the FAQs.
Not for home use: this elevator belongs in the hands of trained surgeons. Read care and sterilization for reprocessing and shipping and delivery for timelines.
