Description
Schmieden-Dick Ligature Needle
The Schmieden-Dick needle is the longest ligature needle in our range. At 30 cm, it reaches vessels deep in the pelvis and abdomen of large patients.
Exceptional length
Thirty centimetres keeps the hand well outside the wound. Therefore, the surgeon can see the tip clearly while passing it.
When the Schmieden-Dick needle helps
Deep pelvic surgery and large patients often push shorter needles too far. In those cases, this needle reaches comfortably.
Typical procedures
Pelvic, rectal and gynaecological surgery use it. For example, it helps ligate deep pelvic vessels.
Technique
Steady the shaft against a hand rest. Then pass the tip behind the vessel, thread the eye and withdraw.
Schmieden or Schmieden-Dick
The Schmieden measures 24 cm. By contrast, this needle adds 6 cm. Choose by the depth of the field.
Handling a 30 cm needle
Long instruments magnify small hand movements at the tip. Therefore, brace the wrist, move slowly and watch the tip rather than the handle throughout the pass.
