Description
Humby Dermatomes Frame Only
The Humby dermatome frame is the body of a hand-held skin graft knife. It holds a blade against an adjustable roller, so the surgeon can cut split-thickness skin grafts of an even depth.
Frame only
This listing is for the frame alone. Therefore, you can replace a worn or damaged frame without buying a full set, while using your existing blades.
How the Humby dermatome frame works
The roller sits just in front of the blade edge. As the knife moves back and forth, the roller flattens the skin, and the gap between roller and blade sets the graft thickness.
Typical uses
Plastic and burns surgeons use hand dermatomes to harvest split-thickness skin grafts. For example, they take grafts from the thigh to cover burns or wounds.
Technique
Lubricate the donor skin and keep it taut with boards. Then move the knife with long, even, sawing strokes while holding a steady angle.
Setting the thickness
Adjust the roller gauge before starting. Thin grafts heal the donor site faster, whereas thicker grafts give more durable cover.
Blades
Use a fresh, compatible blade for each case. In addition, check that it seats firmly in the frame before cutting.
