Schamberg Comedone Extractor

The Schamberg comedone extractor is a short, 10 cm wire loop instrument for fine work. Because it is compact, you can hold the Schamberg comedone extractor close to the tip, much like a pen, and work in small areas with control.

Where it works well

The small loop fits the sides of the nose, the chin and the ears, where a larger cup cannot sit flat. In addition, the thin wire lets you see the skin through the loop as you press. As a result, you can stop as soon as the comedone clears.

Unlike the Unna-Vidal, it has no lancet, so you open closed lesions with a separate blade or needle first. By contrast, the Saalfeld and Katsch patterns use a cup. Many clinics therefore keep a Schamberg for detail work and a cup extractor for larger areas.

Care

Clean the loop right after use, because residue dries quickly on thin wire. Then wash, rinse and dry it, and sterilize it to your protocol. Also check the loop for bends before each use.
