Description
Roser-König
Steady mouth opening is essential when a patient is sedated or under general anaesthesia. The Roser-König pattern, often called simply the Roser mouth gag, is a scissor style opener with a ratchet. Our supplier catalogue places it among its retractors and mouth gags, in 16 cm and 19 cm lengths. Every gag has its ratchet and hinge cycled by hand in the United States prior to shipment.
A Scissor Action With a Locking Ratchet
The tips go between the teeth while the gag is closed. Next, the operator spreads the handles, which opens the jaws in controlled steps. The ratchet then keeps that opening without anyone holding it. So, the surgical team gains both hands and a stable field.
Deciding Between 16 cm and 19 cm
The two options share the same design, and only the length changes. The 16cm version is more compact, which keeps it out of the way during work near the front of the mouth. The 19cm version, however, gives longer handles and more leverage. That helps with larger adult patients or a firmly closed jaw. If your list mixes patient sizes, keeping both lengths is practical. Otherwise, compare the photos with the gags already on your trays.
Steel, First Use and Guarantee
The gag is stainless steel and is delivered non-sterile. Before the first case, release the ratchet, clean the joint carefully and sterilize it with your usual protocol. In addition, we promise the full Roser mouth gag a span of three years against manufacturing defects in its ratchet and hinge.
Stainless steel for surgery is defined by ASTM F899. For more opening and retraction tools, see our Maxillofacial Surgery Instruments section. The Jennings mouth gag is another ratchet gag, sold in three lengths, worth comparing with this one. Order and delivery questions are covered in our FAQs.
Only trained surgical, anaesthesia and dental staff should use this gag. Before reprocessing, read care and sterilization; before ordering for a set date, check shipping and delivery.
