Description
Wound Retractors, 16 cm
This 16 cm wound retractor is a small hand-held hook for lifting skin edges and soft tissue away from an incision. It sits in the supplier catalogue beside the classic hand retractors, and we list it in six versions. Three head patterns are available: Single Hook, Double Hook and Flexible. Then each one comes with a Sharp or Blunt point.
Single Hook, Double Hook or Flexible
The Single Hook gives one narrow point of contact. It suits a small flap or a short incision, where a wider tool would crowd the field. The Double Hook, by contrast, spreads the pull across two prongs, so the tissue edge sits more evenly. The Flexible version is the third catalogue pattern. Since the catalogue gives no extra detail on it, compare its photo with the other two before you order.
Sharp Points Versus Blunt Points
A Sharp point bites into skin or fascia and stays put once tension is applied. For that reason, many surgeons pick sharp hooks for firm skin edges. A Blunt point, however, rounds off the tip. It is the safer pick near vessels, nerves or thin mucosa, because it holds tissue without piercing it. Many trays carry one of each.
- Single Hook, Sharp or Blunt: narrow, one-point retraction
- Double Hook, Sharp or Blunt: two prongs for a broader edge
- Flexible, Sharp or Blunt: the flexible catalogue pattern
Handling and Turnaround Between Cases
At 16 cm, the handle keeps an assistant’s knuckles out of a small oral or facial field. Hook tips collect tissue, so scrub them under water with a small brush right after use. Each hook leaves us unsterilized, which means it needs a complete wash and steam cycle on arrival. Our team examines every piece in the United States before it ships. On top of that, a promise spanning three years against manufacturing defects protects every hook in this listing.
The steel grade follows ASTM F899. For more soft tissue tools, see our maxillofacial surgery instruments. Surgeons who need a double-ended option often order this alongside the Senn-Miller retractor. Our frequently asked questions explain ordering and returns.
