Senn-Miller Retractors
Shallow incisions still need a clear view. A senn miller retractor is a compact, hand-held tool that holds skin and soft tissue aside at small surgical sites. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons use it for minor facial procedures, biopsies and superficial wound work. Two versions are offered: Sharp and Blunt.
Sharp Prongs for a Secure Hold
The Sharp version grips tissue firmly, so the edge stays retracted with light hand pressure. That suits skin and dense tissue, where blunt ends might slip. Nevertheless, sharp points can injure delicate structures, so use them away from vessels and nerves.
Blunt Prongs Near Delicate Tissue
The Blunt version spreads its pressure over a rounded tip. Consequently, it is the safer choice beside vessels, nerves or thin mucosa. Many surgeons prefer it for intraoral work, while others keep both on the tray and switch as the dissection deepens.
A Small Retractor for Small Fields
Larger retractors can crowd a short incision. The Senn-Miller, by contrast, takes up little room, so the assistant can hold it without blocking the surgeon. It is also useful during scar revision, lesion excision and placement of small fixation hardware. Compare the photos of both versions to see the working ends before ordering.
Checked in the U.S. Before It Ships
Each retractor is inspected by hand in the United States. Because it ships non-sterile, it needs cleaning and a sterilization cycle before use. Afterwards, rinse blood from the prongs before it dries. Sharp and Blunt versions alike are covered for three years against manufacturing defects.
Retractor steel is made to ASTM F899. Explore our maxillofacial surgery instruments for related tools. For a longer fine hook, consider the Gilles retractor, and check our FAQs for practical answers.
