Ramus Retractors for Nasal Spine
In jaw and midface surgery, the surgeon needs a narrow blade that lifts tissue cleanly away from bone. This ramus retractor is listed in our supplier catalogue under retractors for the ramus and the nasal spine. Both versions measure 21 cm overall, and they differ only in blade size. Before any unit leaves Atlanta, someone on our United States staff runs a finger along the blade edges and checks the handle.
Reading the Blade Sizes
The option names give the blade measurements first, then the overall length. So, the 72x11mm 21cm version has a blade 72 mm long and 11 mm wide. The 35x11mm 21cm version keeps the same 11 mm width but halves the blade length to 35 mm. Since the handle length is identical, your grip and balance feel the same with either one.
When the Long Blade Helps, and When It Gets in the Way
A 72 mm blade reaches further along the ramus or up toward the nasal spine. Therefore, it suits deeper exposures where tissue must be held well back from the bone. However, a long blade can crowd a small field. In that case, the 35 mm blade gives retraction close to the surface while leaving more room for other instruments. Many surgical teams keep one of each, then pick on the day. Alternatively, compare the photos to judge which profile matches your usual approach.
Material and Our Guarantee
The retractor is stainless steel throughout. Because it leaves us non-sterile, your sterile processing team should run it through their protocol before the first operation. Also, each ramus retractor holds warranty spanning three years against manufacturing defects, which covers routine operating room service.
Surgical steel requirements appear in the ASTM F899 standard. More options for jaw surgery are grouped in our Maxillofacial Surgery Instruments section. In addition, the Middeldorpf Retractors offer a different blade shape that pairs well with this one in the same tray. For order help, start with our FAQs.
