Plastic handle plaster shears
Trimming a plaster model by hand calls for a strong pair of cutters. These plaster shears combine plastic handles with blades the supplier catalogue describes as Special Inox, a stainless grade. We list them at 20 cm, while the catalogue entry gives 19.5 cm. Either way, it is a single model with no options to choose.
Plastic Handles, Stainless Blades
The handles are plastic, not stainless steel. That makes the shears lighter and warmer to hold during long trimming sessions. Meanwhile, the Special Inox blades do the cutting. So treat the two parts differently: the blades tolerate the usual lab cleaning, while the handles need gentler care.
Cutting Plaster and Stone
Typical jobs include clipping excess plaster from a fresh cast, snipping thin flash and opening plaster around a flask. For thicker bases, however, a model trimmer is quicker. The shears then handle the small corners the trimmer cannot reach. They also help trim a plaster index before you section it.
Keeping the Shears Working
Plaster dust dulls a cutting edge quickly. Therefore, rinse the blades soon after use, before the residue sets hard. Next, dry them fully and store them closed. Check the handle fit now and then, because a loose grip reduces control.
Before any plaster shears leave Atlanta, a staff member in the United States opens, closes and inspects them. The shears arrive non-sterile; for chairside use, follow our guidance and the material limits of the plastic handles. Our shear warranty runs three years against manufacturing defects, plastic grips included. Our steel blades align with the ASTM F899 standard.
