Perio Chip Forceps
Some periodontal maintenance plans include a small medicated chip placed directly into a deep pocket. Fingers are too large for that job, and a cotton plier can crush or drop the chip. Perio chip forceps give a narrow, controlled hold so the chip goes where the clinician intends. Our Atlanta warehouse stocks this single pattern.
Placing a Chip Step by Step
First, the pocket is measured and the site isolated with cotton rolls. Next, the clinician picks up the chip at its end, then guides the leading edge into the pocket opening. Once the chip is in, the tips release it and may gently press it down. So the forceps tips must be thin enough to enter the sulcus without tearing tissue.
Why Not Use Standard Cotton Pliers
Standard pliers are designed for cotton pellets and rolls, which tolerate a firm squeeze. However, a thin chip can bend or fragment under the same pressure. A dedicated forceps lets the hygienist hold the chip lightly and steer it at the right angle. In addition, keeping a separate instrument on the perio tray saves time during maintenance visits.
A Single Pattern to Order
The page lists one catalogue pattern only. Therefore, the product photos are the best reference for the tip shape and length. Always follow the chip manufacturer instructions for indications and technique.
Checks Before Dispatch and Cover After Purchase
Staff at our United States location examine each pair of perio chip forceps for tip alignment before packing. As for flaws from production, your pair is warranted for three years against manufacturing defects, tips and joint included. Clean and sterilize the forceps on arrival, as they leave us non-sterile.
The steel grade follows ASTM F899. Visit our periodontal and diagnostic instruments, measure sites with our Goldman-Fox Periodontal Probes, or see the FAQs.
