Description

Palmer Rubber Dam Clamps Forceps

Placing a rubber dam clamp by hand is nearly impossible, because the jaws must spread before they grip the tooth. These Palmer rubber dam forceps spread the clamp jaws, lift the clamp over the crown and let go once it sits. Intrace USA, an Atlanta distributor, offers this Palmer pattern from the rubber dam page of its supplier catalogue.

From Clamp Hole to Cervical Seat

First, the tips go into the two holes in the clamp jaws. Then squeezing the handles spreads the clamp wide enough to pass over the crown. Next, the operator seats the jaws below the height of contour and relaxes the grip. Finally, the forceps tips slide out, leaving the clamp in place for the dam.

Why the Palmer Pattern

The catalogue shows three named clamp forceps: Brewer, Stokes and Palmer. Each pattern sets the tips and handles a little differently, and preference often comes from training. Some clinicians simply choose the style their dental school used. Since the catalogue does not list dimensions, look at the photos of the Palmer tips and handle before you order.

Removing the Clamp at the End

Removal reverses the process. The tips go back into the clamp holes, the handles spread the jaws, and the clamp lifts away from the tooth. Because the forceps hold the spread position firmly, the clamp does not snap against enamel or gingiva during removal.

Inspection, Cover and Preparation

Our United States team examines each pair of Palmer forceps for tip fit and joint movement before shipping. On these Palmer forceps, the joint, tips and handles stay covered for three years against manufacturing defects. Delivered unsterilized, the instrument needs a full wash and steam cycle before its first dam placement.

Steel meets the ASTM F899 specification. Browse our restorative instrument collection, choose matching Rubber Dam Clamps, or check the FAQs for ordering help.
