Description
Orthodontic Ligature Directors
When you tie in an archwire, the twisted ligature ends need to tuck neatly out of the way. An orthodontic ligature director does that job. It guides the tie around the bracket and pushes the cut end under the wire. We stock six forms, so you can match the tool to your routine.
Choosing From Six Forms
- Single Ended and Double Ended: plain directors with one or two working ends.
- Double Ended, Light: a light, double ended director.
- Director / Scaler and Director / Scaler, Slim: a director at one end and a scaler at the other; the Slim is the slimmer of the two.
- Director / Scaler, Coil Spring: the catalogue notes it can activate coil spring and remove modules with one instrument.
How to Narrow It Down
If you only tuck ties, a plain director is enough. However, if you also clear cement or plaque around brackets, a Director / Scaler saves a tool change. And if you often adjust coil springs, the Coil Spring form covers that too. Each form ships singly, so mixing types is easy.
Tucking a Ligature
First, twist the tie snug and cut it short. Then use the director to push the cut end under the archwire or into the bracket gap. As a result, nothing pokes the lip or cheek. Check with a finger sweep before the patient leaves.
Why a Light Form Helps
A lighter tool gives more feel in tight spots. So many clinicians use the light forms for fine work near the gum. In contrast, the standard forms suit routine tucking across the arch.
Ligature Director Tip Care
Wipe the tips right after use, then rinse. Also look for bent tips, because a bent end can slip off the tie. You can usually reshape a slight bend with care, but replace a tool that has cracked.
