Olivecrona Dura Dissector

The Olivecrona dura dissector separates the dura from the bone above it. Neurosurgeons rely on it in craniotomy and laminectomy to protect the dura before bone cuts.

Separating the layers

Dura often adheres to the inner skull or lamina. So the surgeon slides the dissector between dura and bone to free it. Afterward, a saw, drill or rongeur can work with less risk of a tear.

Three lengths

Steps in a craniotomy

After drilling burr holes, the surgeon strips dura from the bone between them. Then the craniotome passes along the planned line. Finally, the dissector helps lift the bone flap free.
