Yasargil Tumor Forceps, Bayonet-Shaped

Yasargil tumor forceps grasp and remove tumor tissue during microneurosurgery. Thanks to the bayonet shape, the surgeon’s hand stays off the optical axis, so the tips remain visible.

Why bayonet-shaped

Under the microscope, a straight handle would sit in the line of sight. Therefore, the bayonet bend moves the handle aside. The surgeon can then grasp tissue deep in a cavity while still seeing exactly where the tips are.

Seven options

We list two groups. First, 23 cm forceps with plain or serrated tips in 3 or 5 mm. Second, tumor and tissue grasping forceps in 3 mm at 20 or 23 cm, and in 5 mm at 23 cm. Together these make seven options.

Plain or serrated

Plain tips hold soft tissue gently. Meanwhile, serrated tips give more grip on firmer tumor. The grasping versions suit tissue that tends to slip, so many surgeons keep one of each type.

Choosing a width

A 3 mm tip works in tight spaces and around delicate structures. In contrast, a 5 mm tip removes larger pieces faster. If you are building a set, consider both widths in your usual length.

Caring for your Yasargil tumor forceps

Remove tissue from the tips promptly, especially from serrations, where it can dry. Then brush the tips and the bayonet bend. Rinse, dry and sterilize the forceps with a tip protector.
