Description
O’Connor Iris Hook
The O’Connor iris hook is a 12cm hook with a sharp tip. Surgeons use iris hooks to catch, move or hold the iris during anterior segment work. The sharp edge lets you engage tissue at a precise point.
Why choose a sharp iris hook
A sharp tip catches tissue more readily than a blunt one. So it suits steps where you want a firm, exact hold. However, a sharp tip also needs more care near delicate structures. Many surgeons keep a blunt hook on hand as well, then choose by the step. If you are new to sharp iris hooks, start with gentle, short moves and build up from there.
Typical use at the pupil margin
Iris hooks often help at the pupil margin, for example to reposition the iris or to give better access. The O’Connor’s 12cm length gives good reach under the microscope. Meanwhile, the slim shaft keeps the view open.
O’Connor key details
- Length: 12cm
- Edge type: sharp
- Single-point control of iris tissue
- Non-sterile on arrival, reusable after each cycle
Protecting a sharp tip
A sharp tip loses its edge if it knocks against other steel. So store the O’Connor with a tip guard or in a slotted rack. After use, rinse it, clean it gently and dry it. Then run your normal cycle before the next case. The O’Connor ships non-sterile, so that first cycle matters most, and it is reusable from then on.
O’Connor warranty and more
We offer three years against manufacturing defects on every O’Connor hook, so an O’Connor with a faulty tip will be put right. We use steel to ASTM F899. See our iris hooks and eye tools, or compare with the Mod. Tubingen iris hook, another sharp option. Our FAQ page has order help.
