Description
Wecker Iris Scissors
Wecker iris scissors are a classic spring-type pattern for fine cuts in the anterior eye. This pair measures 11 cm. You can choose blunt/blunt, sharp/blunt or sharp/sharp tips.
Choosing Wecker Tips
Sharp/sharp tips cut cleanly into the iris or a membrane. However, they can catch nearby tissue. Blunt/blunt tips are safer close to the lens or cornea. Then sharp/blunt sits in between, with one point to start the cut and one blunt blade to guard.
Wecker Spring-Type Action
You squeeze the handle to close the blades, and the spring reopens them. Because each stroke is short, cuts stay small. That suits work inside a small wound. Many surgeons also find this action less tiring than rings during long lists, and it lets the hand rotate freely.
Classic Wecker Uses
In general, de Wecker-style scissors appear in iridectomy, iridotomy and trimming of fine membranes. They also help when an opening needs a small extension.
- 11 cm overall length
- Blunt/blunt tips for safety
- Sharp/blunt tips for controlled starts
- Sharp/sharp tips for clean cuts
Handling Inside the Eye
Enter the wound with the blades closed. Next, open them only as wide as needed. Also watch the tips constantly, since fine structures sit close by.
Wecker Joint Care
Flush the joint after use, since fluid can collect there. Then dry the scissors well. Finally, test the cut on a thin tissue paper to check sharpness.
This pair ships non-sterile and serves repeatedly after sound cleaning and sterilization. Our stainless steel complies with ASTM F899, and the final check happens in the United States. Each tip type carries three years against manufacturing defects, too. For an iris pattern with edge and tip choices, see the Castroviejo iris scissors.
