Description
Neutral Drill Guide
The neutral drill guide places the drill hole in the center of a compression plate hole. As a result, the screw goes in without adding compression across the fracture.
Neutral versus load
Compression plates have sloped holes. If you drill off-center, tightening the screw slides the plate and compresses the fracture. By contrast, a neutral guide centers the hole, so the screw just holds.
Five versions
Choose 2.0, 2.7, 3.5 or 4.5 mm to match your plate system. In addition, there is a 4.5 mm version 60 mm long. Also, that longer version suits thicker soft-tissue cover.
Who uses a neutral drill guide
Trauma surgeons use it during plate fixation when compression is not wanted. For example, it suits the second screw on the far side of a fracture. Scrub staff keep it beside the load guide.
Seating the guide
Press the guide firmly into the plate hole before drilling. Then keep it steady while the bit passes. Movement here can shift the hole off center.
Matching the plate
Guides must match the plate hole size. Consequently, check your plate system before ordering. In addition, we can help confirm fit.
