Description
Mod-USA Plaster Cast Instrument
The Mod-USA cast instrument is a 23 cm hand tool of the modified USA pattern. It helps open and spread a plaster cast once the cast has been cut.
Opening a cut cast
A cast saw or knife only makes the cut line. After that, the two halves still need to be eased apart. So a hand tool like this one spreads the edges with control.
The Mod-USA cast instrument pattern
The name points to a modified version of a USA pattern. Our listing gives the length but few other details. We can send a photo of the jaws before you order.
Who uses the Mod-USA cast instrument
Fracture clinics and cast rooms use tools of this kind every day. Also, emergency departments remove casts after swelling. Moreover, orthopedic wards keep one handy.
Patient comfort
A careful spread avoids pinching the skin under the cast. Therefore open the jaws slowly and watch the padding. Talk the patient through each step.
A 23 cm length
At 23 cm, the tool fits easily in one hand. Meanwhile, it gives enough leverage for most arm and leg casts. Larger casts may call for a longer spreader.
Cast room kit
A good cast room has saws, knives, shears and spreaders. Consequently, this tool fits into a wider set. Ask us to help complete your kit.

The pledge for each cast instrument
If the cast instrument shows an assembly flaw, you keep three years against manufacturing defects. Any cast instrument passes a visual examination at our Atlanta site before dispatch. Some trays also hold our Beeson cast spreader. For answers on returns, browse our customer FAQ. Further tools live in the orthopedic line. Many clinics hold two of these for busy lists. We readily help with sizing before you buy. FDA listings include ASTM F899 for instrument alloys.
Intended for professional buyers. Refund rules sit on the refunds page. Pictures on this page may differ slightly. Note that this alloy contains nickel; check the care instructions for more.
