Plain, Magnifying or Rhodium Glass

First, plain heads show the tooth at true size, which suits most examinations. Magnifying heads enlarge the reflection; however, they show a smaller area at once. Then there are rhodium heads, which use a rhodium mirror surface, named as such in the catalogue. Many clinicians keep one magnifying mirror per tray alongside plain ones.

Sizing: 22, 24 and 26 mm

The catalogue numbers these heads Fig. 4 at 22 mm, Fig. 5 at 24 mm and Fig. 6 at 26 mm. A 22 mm head moves easily around third molars and in small mouths. Meanwhile, 24 mm is the everyday middle size. The 26 mm head retracts more cheek and shows more of the arch. Plain and Magnifying come in all three sizes, while Rhodium comes in 22 and 24 mm.

What Style 2 and Style 3 Mean

Also, some sizes appear in more than one catalogue row. For example, Magnifying, 24 mm, Style 2 and Rhodium, 22 mm, Style 2 come from a second row of the same mirror page. Similarly, Rhodium, 22 mm, Style 3 is a third row. The catalogue does not name the difference, so compare the photos to decide.
