Description
Mod. Barraquer Eye Speculum
This modified barraquer speculum is a small 4cm lid speculum with a light build. It keeps the lids apart while taking up very little room. So it suits microscope cases where every bit of space near the eye counts.
Barraquer specula and their light build
The Barraquer family is known for light, low-profile specula. They put little weight on the lids and stay out of the way of your hands. This modified version keeps that idea in a 4cm size. For example, many cataract surgeons like that light touch.
Who reaches for a 4cm frame
A 4cm speculum suits small eyes, children and narrow fissures. It also helps when a bulky frame would block the microscope view. Even so, its spread is modest next to an adult frame. So for a wide adult eye that needs full exposure, a bigger pattern may serve better.

- Light frame with a low profile near the eye
- Good fit for small lids and pediatric cases

Gentle care for a light speculum
Light frames bend more easily than heavy ones, and a bent modified barraquer speculum will not seat evenly on the lids. So handle it with care in the tray, and never use it to lever tissue. After each case, rinse, clean and dry it. Then check that it still sits flat and springs back evenly before you pack it.
Mod. Barraquer warranty
