Description
Mini-Gillies Needle Holder and Scissors, Carbide
Gillies-style holders combine two jobs in one tool. This mini gillies needle holder grips the needle with serrated carbide tips, and a scissor section cuts the suture once the knot is down. At 14 cm, it is a compact take on the pattern for oral and facial soft tissue.
The Offset Handle
The catalogue notes that the offset handle reduces hand fatigue. Because the ring handles sit off the line of the jaws, your wrist stays in a more neutral position during long closures. As a result, the instrument feels lighter over a full row of stitches, and your view of the needle is less blocked by your own fingers.
Gripping and Cutting in One Sequence
First, hold the needle in the carbide tips and make your pass. Then tie the knot with the same instrument. Next, move the suture tails into the scissor portion and close to trim. Since you never set the holder down, closure flows quickly, which helps when you work without a dedicated assistant. However, keep the thread in the tips while suturing so you do not cut it by accident.
Where the Mini Size Fits
- Lip and facial skin closure after minor oral surgery.
- Intraoral flaps in the anterior and premolar regions.
- Small lacerations where a full-size Gillies feels bulky.
Inspection and Warranty for the Mini-Gillies
It is stainless steel with carbide tip inserts, and our US inspection desk checks the offset rings, cutting edges and tip alignment before packing. Because the Mini-Gillies is supplied non-sterile, give it a full cleaning and autoclave run before patient use. Offset combination holders on this page include three years against manufacturing defects, scissor edges and carbide both.
The ASTM F899 specification describes surgical stainless steel. Explore our maxillofacial surgery collection, or compare the straight, longer Mayo-Hegar Needle Holder with Side-Cutting Scissors. Order questions are handled in the FAQs.
Mini-Gillies holders are designed for trained clinicians performing suturing. Find reprocessing notes under care and sterilization and delivery windows under shipping.
