Description
Millin Bladder Retractor, Complete
The Millin Bladder Retractor is the self-retaining frame used to open and hold a retropubic or suprapubic prostatectomy. It locks at the working width and stays there, so nobody has to stand holding a blade for the length of the case.
Complete means the frame with its full blade set: two lateral blades at 57 x 25mm, two lateral blades at 80 x 25mm and one central blade at 120 x 45mm, on a frame that opens to 140mm.
Need to replace a single blade rather than buy the set? Blades are listed on their own as Millin Bladder Retractor, Replacement Blades.
Why two lateral blade widths
The 57mm pair suits a narrower pelvis or a shallower approach. The 80mm pair takes a wider bite when the field needs holding further back. Having both in the set means the same frame covers a range of body habitus without a second instrument.
The central blade
At 120 x 45mm the central blade is the deep one. It holds the bladder back off the prostatic bed while the laterals hold the wound edges, which is the configuration that gives a clear view into the capsule.
Reprocessing
Strip the blades off the frame and reprocess the parts separately. Soil collects in the blade mounts and along the ratchet, so brush those under the surface rather than rinsing from above. Dry completely before reassembly. A mount left damp corrodes at the seat long before anything shows on the blade itself.
