Description
Meyer-Schwickerath Iris Hook
The meyer-schwickerath iris hook is a 13cm tool for fine work on the iris. It carries the name of Gerhard Meyer-Schwickerath, a German pioneer in eye surgery. Also, we offer just one pattern in one length.
A long reach for iris work
At 13cm, this hook gives a good reach under the microscope. Your hand stays back from the eye, so the view stays clear. Also, the slim shaft passes through small openings with ease. As a result, you can work on the iris without crowding the field.
Where it helps in a case
Iris hooks help you move, retract or reposition the iris. For instance, you may need to guide the pupil margin or free a small adhesion. In each case, a fine hook lets you do that at a single point. However, keep your moves small, since the iris is soft and thin. A slow, steady hand protects both the iris and the lens behind it, and it keeps bleeding to a minimum.
Points to remember
- Enter and exit through the same path.
- Engage the iris edge, not its centre.
- Use light, slow traction.
- Look over the tip before each use.
Meyer-Schwickerath reprocessing
Rinse the hook as soon as you finish. Next, clean it with a soft brush or an ultrasonic bath, then rinse and dry. It comes to you non-sterile, so one full steriliser run comes before the first case. After that, it is ready for reuse.
