Description
Wiener Iris Hook
The wiener iris hook is a 13cm tool for moving and holding the iris. You can order it with a blunt edge or a sharp edge. That choice decides how the tip meets the tissue, so it is worth a moment of thought before you order.
Blunt Wiener: push and guide
A blunt tip pushes and guides tissue rather than piercing it. So it suits steps where you want to move the iris or pupil edge with low risk of a tear. It also feels safer near the lens capsule. For many surgeons, blunt is the default.
Sharp Wiener: catch and hold
A sharp tip catches tissue at a point and holds it firmly. Therefore it suits steps that need a secure grip. However, it calls for more care, since a sharp tip can snag nearby tissue. Some surgeons keep both edges on the tray and switch as needed.
Wiener options side by side
- Length: 13cm on both versions
- Blunt edge: gentle push with low tear risk
- Sharp edge: firm catch at a single point
- Same handle and feel for an easy switch
Wiener tip care
The tip is the working part, so protect it. After each case, flush the Wiener tip with sterile water and wipe it with a lint-free swab. Then fit a tip guard or park it in a slotted rack. Since every Wiener hook reaches you non-sterile, its first stop is your autoclave. A sharp Wiener that hits a steel tray edge can lose its point, so handle the sharp version with extra care.
Wiener warranty and next steps
Both Wiener versions come with three years against manufacturing defects on the Wiener tip and shaft. The steel is in line with ASTM F899. Shop our anterior segment hook range, or see the Graefe iris hook, which also offers blunt and sharp. Our FAQs answer common questions.
