Description
Mershon Band Pusher, 14 cm
The Mershon orthodontic band pusher is a 14 cm stainless steel hand instrument for seating orthodontic bands. Our supplier lists it in the crown remover section of its catalogue, which is why it shares this category. In practice, however, its job is the opposite of removal: it pushes a band or margin firmly onto the tooth.
What a Band Pusher Does
A fitted band must sit evenly around the crown of the tooth. So the clinician places it by hand, then uses the pusher to drive each section down along the tooth surface. The working tip lets you apply force with finger and palm pressure. As a result, you can work around the band step by step until it sits flush.
Where It Fits on an Orthodontic or Restorative Tray
Orthodontists use the Mershon pattern when fitting molar and premolar bands. In addition, restorative teams sometimes use it to adapt the margin of a temporary crown or matrix band. It sits naturally next to a band seater, a scaler and a band remover. For example, a typical banding appointment uses the pusher to settle the band, then a bite stick to finish seating it.
Length, Grip and Upkeep
At 14 cm, the instrument fits a standard cassette and balances well in the hand. Because it is used with real force, inspect the tip for burrs after each cycle. It arrives from us without sterile packaging, so give it a full wash and autoclave run first. Our United States staff check every pusher by eye before release. If the steel or tip fails through no fault of use, the cover we give is three years against manufacturing defects.
The alloy follows ASTM F899. Other chairside tools are listed in our dental instruments catalogue. For lifting a band off again, many offices keep a double-ended crown remover on the same tray. Billing and return policies are in our FAQs.
Meant for licensed orthodontic and dental staff. Steps for reprocessing are in our care guide, with transit times on the shipping and delivery page.
