Description
Meriam Cotton Pliers
Meriam cotton pliers pick up and place cotton rolls, pellets and small items in and around the mouth. They are among the most used instruments on any dental tray. Our supplier offers the Meriam pattern in ten versions, so this page explains how they differ.
Fig. 1 Smooth or Fig. 2 Serrated
Fig. 1 has smooth tips, while Fig. 2 has serrated tips. Smooth tips release cotton and small parts cleanly. By contrast, serrated tips hold slippery items more firmly, such as a wet pellet or a wedge. Many offices keep both, because each tip suits different tasks.
15 cm or 16 cm
The standard Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 pliers come in 15 cm and 16 cm lengths. The 16 cm version adds a little reach for posterior work. Meanwhile, the 15 cm length sits closer in the hand, which some assistants prefer for quick transfers.
Style 2, Style 3, Toe Joint and Plain
Style 2 and Style 3 are further catalogue rows for the 16 cm Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 pliers on different handle patterns. The Style 3 rows keep the smooth and serrated labels, whereas the Style 2 captions list only the figure and length. The Toe Joint option is a 16 cm Meriam with a toe joint, as the catalogue names it. Finally, the 15 cm Plain model is listed simply as plain. With no further catalogue notes, lay the four photos side by side and judge them by eye.
Handling Cotton Without Contamination
Grip each cotton roll near its end so the tips do not crush it. Also, set the pliers tips-down on a clean tray area between uses.
Each Meriam plier is stainless steel; before shipment, an Atlanta inspector squeezes the tips together to confirm they meet, here in the United States. Pliers arrive unsterilized, so wash and sterilize them before the first patient. Whichever of the ten Meriam versions you pick, the pliers hold a guarantee lasting three years against manufacturing defects.
Meriam steel meets ASTM F899 grades. Everyday tray basics fill our diagnostic and restorative listings, so pair these pliers with a mouth mirror with handle. Our FAQs answer ordering questions.
