McGivney Ligator Loading Cone

A ligator loading cone makes it quick to fit an elastic band onto the drum of a hemorrhoid ligator. You roll the band down the taper, and it seats on the drum in one movement.

Choosing 10 mm or 12 mm

Match the cone to the drum on your ligator. The 12 mm size suits the McGivney ligator. Meanwhile, the 10 mm size suits a 10 mm drum, such as the drums in our ligator range.

Why a ligator loading cone helps

Without a cone, staff stretch each band by hand, which is slow. Instead, the taper spreads the band evenly, so it sits square and releases cleanly.

Loading bands step by step

First, place the narrow end of the cone over the drum. Next, roll one or two bands onto the wide end with your fingers. Then push them down the taper until they snap onto the drum. Finally, remove the cone and check each band sits flat and even. Because a twisted band may not release cleanly, reload it if it looks uneven. Also, keep a supply of fresh bands, since old latex loses its grip.

Looking after the cone

Wash the cone after each clinic and dry it fully. Also, check the tip for burrs, because a rough edge can tear a band.
