Description
Maxwell Retractor 4 Prongs
The Maxwell retractor holds back skin and soft tissue with four sharp prongs. It keeps a small incision open while the surgeon works underneath.
Four prongs, two widths
The prongs spread across 22 mm or 38 mm. Additionally, narrow spacing suits short incisions on the face. Meanwhile, the wider version holds a longer edge in breast or body work.
Why choose a Maxwell retractor
Sharp prongs grip skin without crushing it. So the edge stays lifted with light pull. In addition, the slim profile leaves room for scissors and forceps in the same opening.
Hand position
Hold the handle low and pull along the line of the incision. Steady, gentle traction works better than a hard lift. Also, change the grip point now and then to spread pressure.
Partner instruments
Surgeons often use it opposite a skin hook or a second retractor. Together they open a neat window. Furthermore, many plastic trays carry the 22 mm and 38 mm side by side.

Guarding the prong tips
Rinse the prongs straight after use and clean them with a soft brush. Dry fully. Then fit a tip protector before storage.
