Luxating Elevators, 7 Tip Shapes
These seven luxating elevator tip forms let you match the blade to the root, the tooth and the access you have. You can order Straight, Curved, Spade, Mesial, Distal, Large Spade or Large Mesial. Each tip cuts the ligament, so you need far less force than with a lever.
How a luxating tip frees a root
Slide the blade into the PDL space and press gently toward the apex. Then rock it a little and move around the root. As a result, the fibres part and the socket opens slowly. Do not lever with it, because the thin edge can chip or bend.
Picking from the seven forms
Each form suits a different job, and you can buy any one of them singly:
- Straight and Curved: general forms; the curve helps with hard-to-face surfaces.
- Spade: a broad, flat tip for wider roots.
- Mesial and Distal: tips angled to reach the mesial or distal root surface.
- Large Spade and Large Mesial: wider versions for bigger roots.
Matching the blade to the tooth
In general, a slim form suits small single roots, while a large form suits broad molar roots. However, the space you find matters more than the tooth type. So start with a form that slips in easily, then move to a wider one.
Protecting bone for implants
A cutting tip spares the buccal plate far better than a wedge or lever. For this reason, these blades suit teeth you plan to replace with an implant. Also, keep a solid finger rest, so a slip stops short of soft tissue.
Ordering one form or several
Out of the packet the tips are non-sterile, yet each one returns to service after a full clean and sterilization cycle. Each form follows our own specification, uses stainless steel that conforms to ASTM F899, and goes through inspection in the United States. Every one of the luxating elevator tip forms carries three years against manufacturing defects in writing, so we sort out a faulty blade fast. Next, see the grooved version with a fluid channel or the wider root elevator collection. For returns and accounts, visit our frequently asked questions page.
