Description
Luer- Koerte Gall Stone Scoop, Malleable
The Luer-Koerte stone scoop has a malleable shaft that the surgeon can bend to match the duct. That lets the scoop follow curves where a rigid tool would catch.
Eight figures
Figures run from 000, the smallest, up to 5. As a result, one family covers very narrow ducts and wide ones. Many surgeons keep three or four sizes.
Why a malleable Luer-Koerte stone scoop
Bile ducts rarely run straight. A shaft you can bend follows the real anatomy. Consequently, the bowl reaches stones behind a curve.
Shaping the shaft
Bend the shaft gently by hand before insertion. Then check the curve against the expected duct path. Also, avoid repeated sharp bends at one spot, because metal tires over time.
Typical procedures
Open common bile duct exploration uses it most. In addition, it helps clear stones from the hepatic ducts. It also removes debris after lithotripsy.
Technique
Pass the scoop beyond the stone with the bowl facing it. Next, draw back slowly so the bowl gathers the stone. Finally, flush the duct to confirm it is clear.
