The dental Lucas bone curette is the spoon-shaped instrument most surgeons use to clean an extraction socket down to sound bone. Its rounded cup scrapes away granulation tissue. It then doubles as a carrier for small amounts of graft. This listing gathers six versions so you can size the cup to the socket in front of you.

Clearing a Socket Before Grafting or Placement

Residual soft tissue left in a socket can interfere with grafting or immediate implants. So, after extraction, the surgeon sweeps the curette around the walls and base. Then the same cup can scoop a small portion of graft into the socket.

Five Numbered Sizes: #75, #85, #86, #87 and #88

Our supplier catalogue lists the numbered Lucas curettes as a series under periodontal and bone curettes. The numbers identify standard Lucas patterns. However, the catalogue gives no dimensions for them. Therefore, compare the photos side by side, and choose smaller numbers for narrow roots and larger ones for molar sockets.

The Surgical, Kit Pattern Option

The sixth option comes from the catalogue’s implant and membrane surgical kit, where it appears as the Lucas Surgical Curette. In other words, it is the kit tray version, not one of the numbered series. Choose it when you are building or refilling a kit to that layout.

Every curette is examined in the United States before we ship it. Whichever size you choose, it is protected for three years against manufacturing defects. The curettes are supplied non-sterile; scrub debris from the cup and sterilize each one before use.
