Description
Linder Spatula
The Linder spatula is a blunt hand instrument for delicate eye surgery. Its smooth blade has no cutting edge. You use it to part, lift or move tissue gently, which makes it a useful extra on many trays.
A blunt tool with many small jobs
Spatulas do quiet work. For example, they hold tissue aside, test a plane or sweep debris from a wound. Yet none of these steps need a sharp edge. So a blunt blade gives control while keeping the risk of a cut low.
Holding the Linder pattern
Lay the Linder handle over your fingers as you would a pen, and brace the side of your hand. Then short, slow moves of the fingertips give the best control. Also keep the blade flat to the tissue when you sweep.
Is it right for your tray?
- A blunt tool for separating layers is on your list
- Tissue needs guiding without a cut
- A spare blunt blade during a case would help
- Your training used the Linder pattern
Comparing it with Green and Smith-Fisher
All three patterns share the same idea: a smooth, blunt blade. Still, the blade shape and balance differ. If you are unsure, compare them in person and keep the one that feels most natural.
Linder blade upkeep
Wash the blade soon after use. After that, dry it fully and check the edges under good light. Store it flat or in a slot, since a bent blade loses its feel.
It ships non-sterile; once cleaned and sterilized, the Linder blade returns to use. The steel follows ASTM F899 for this style of blade. Linder owners also have Linder cover for three years against manufacturing defects, Linder blade and shaft included. See the eye instrument shop, the Green spatula, or the help questions.
