Description
Lichtenberg Needle Holder
The Lichtenberg needle holder is a heavy palm-grip holder of the Mathieu type. It comes in 20 cm and 25 cm lengths.
Palm grip, no rings
Your whole hand closes the spring handles. So you can apply strong, even force to large needles. No finger rings means you can use a gloved fist grip.
Built-in ratchet
A ratchet between the handles locks the jaws. Then the next squeeze opens them, which keeps the rhythm of closure fast. So you can close long incisions quickly.
Stainless or carbide jaws
Plain jaws suit general needs. Alternatively, choose normal-profile carbide for a regular serration that stays crisp for years. Because it is so sturdy, the Lichtenberg needle holder handles thick fascia well.
Choosing a length
The 20 cm model handles most body-wall closure. However, the 25 cm Lichtenberg needle holder reaches into deep fields where a palm grip still helps. Both sizes use the same handle action. Also, the longer size helps in large patients. Meanwhile, the shorter one packs neatly into orthopedic sets.
Cleaning Lichtenberg needle holder
Unlock the ratchet and let the spring relax before washing. Next, clean between the ratchet teeth with a narrow brush. Finally, dry the holder and check the spring tension by hand.
