Description
Mathieu Needle Holder
The Mathieu needle holder is the classic palm-grip holder. It has spring handles and a ratchet, with no finger rings.
How it works
You hold the handles in your palm and squeeze to close the jaws. Then the ratchet catches, and the next squeeze releases it. That motion lets you drive needles quickly in a smooth rhythm.
Strong grip
Palm pressure delivers more force than finger rings. So the holder suits heavy needles in skin, fascia and orthopedic closure. Also, the Mathieu needle holder frees your fingers for rotating the needle.
Jaw options
Choose plain stainless jaws for basic use. However, carbide inserts in the normal profile last longer and grip general sutures well. Gold handles identify the carbide model on the tray.
Choosing a length
Seven sizes run from 14 to 24 cm. For example, a 14 or 15 cm size suits skin, while 20 cm and longer reach deeper layers. Many orthopedic trays keep two Mathieu needle holder sizes side by side.
Reprocessing Mathieu needle holder
Open the ratchet before washing, so water reaches every tooth. Next, scrub the jaws and spring joint. Once dry, test the holder and confirm the spring returns the handles fully.
