Description
Hegar-Baumgartner Needle Holder
The Hegar-Baumgartner needle holder is a lighter take on the classic Hegar. Three short lengths cover 13, 14 and 15 cm.
A lighter Hegar
The frame keeps the familiar Hegar grip with slimmer jaws. So it handles smaller needles than the full Mayo-Hegar. You still get a firm ratchet and sturdy rings.
Carbide mini profile
Gold handles mark the carbide version. Its mini serration grips mid-fine needles and keeps that grip over time. Plain steel jaws cost less and suit routine closures.
Three lengths
The 13 cm size suits superficial closures. Meanwhile, the 14 and 15 cm sizes reach a little deeper. Each Hegar-Baumgartner needle holder length uses the same jaw pattern. Most general surgeons find 14 cm the easiest size to start with.
Where it fits
General surgery and outpatient sets use this holder for routine skin and fascia. Then a Mayo-Hegar takes over for heavy needles. Since the grips feel alike, the switch comes naturally. Also, the carbide version suits clinics that reprocess instruments daily. Meanwhile, steel jaws fit lower-volume sites well.
Cleaning Hegar-Baumgartner needle holder
Soak the Hegar-Baumgartner needle holder briefly in enzyme cleaner. Next, brush the jaw faces and the box lock by hand. Once dry, test the ratchet on each click.
