Description
Legueu Self-Retaining Bladder Retractor Set
The Legueu Bladder Retractor 95mm set is the self-retaining pattern. Once it is seated and opened it holds the wound itself, which frees the hand that would otherwise be holding a blade. Supplied as a set: two hinged lateral blades measuring 27 x 60mm and a central tongue blade, on a 17cm frame that opens to 95mm.
This is the frame instrument, not a single blade. If you are looking for the simpler hand held retractor that an assistant holds, that is the single blade hand held Legueu, 35 x 90mm and it is a separate listing.
Why a set rather than one blade
A deep retropubic or suprapubic exposure needs retraction in more than one direction at once. The two hinged lateral blades at 27 x 60mm hold the sides while the central tongue blade takes the depth, and the ratchet locks the whole thing at an opening of up to 95mm. Because the frame carries the load, the exposure stays where the surgeon set it instead of drifting as an assistant tires. In a long case that consistency is the point of the instrument.
What this replaces
Teams commonly reach for this pattern in open prostatectomy, cystotomy and bladder neck work, where the alternative is two or three assistants each holding a hand retractor. The trade is a heavier instrument and a longer reprocessing cycle in exchange for a stable field and fewer hands in the wound.
Reprocessing
Take the blades off the frame before cleaning and reprocess the parts separately. The ratchet and the blade mounts are the places soil hides, so brush them under the surface rather than rinsing from above. Dry fully before assembly, since moisture left in a mount will corrode the seat long before it marks the blade. Lubricate the moving joint at the interval your protocol sets, then autoclave.
