Description
Guyon Kidney Pedicle Clamp
A clamp for the renal pedicle, where the jaws have to close evenly along their full length rather than meeting at the tip first. Uneven closure on a pedicle leaves a gap at one end and crushes the other, which is the failure this pattern is shaped to avoid.
Jaw and closure
Long slim jaws with longitudinal serrations, sprung so that the tips and the heel arrive together. The ratchet is stepped finely enough that the pressure can be set rather than simply applied, which matters on a structure that has to survive the clamp.
Two lengths
20 cm and 23 cm. The choice is reach, not jaw length. A deeper approach or a larger patient takes the 23 cm; the shorter clamp is easier to control where the pedicle is accessible.
Care
Open the ratchet fully and brush along the serrations rather than across them. Check that the jaws still meet along their whole length by holding the closed clamp up to the light, since a clamp that has sprung will show daylight at one end. Dry the box joint and store with the ratchet released.
