Legueu Bladder Retractor, Single Blade 35 x 90mm

The Legueu Bladder Retractor 35mm is the hand held pattern of the Legueu. One curved blade, one handle, 27cm overall, with a working surface of 35 x 90mm. An assistant holds it in position for as long as the exposure is needed.

This is not the self-retaining version. If you want a retractor that stays open on its own once it is seated, you want the Legueu Self-Retaining Bladder Retractor Set, which is a different instrument at a different price.

Where the 35 x 90mm blade earns its place

Ninety millimeters of blade depth reaches past the bladder wall in an open retropubic or suprapubic approach without the tip riding up out of the wound. Thirty five millimeters of width is narrow enough to work between a second retractor and the pubic ramus, which is where a wider blade starts fighting for room. The curve is gradual rather than sharp, so load spreads along the blade instead of concentrating at one edge.

Handling

The handle is set at an angle to the blade so the assistant holding it keeps their hand and forearm out of the surgeon line of sight. Weight sits toward the blade, which means the instrument rests against tissue rather than needing to be pulled against it.

Reprocessing

A single piece instrument with no joint, no box lock and no hinge, so there is no lumen or crevice to trap debris. Clean with a neutral pH detergent, rinse, dry, then autoclave to your facility protocol. Keep abrasive pads away from the blade face, since scratches give soil somewhere to sit on the next cycle. Store it so the blade is not resting under heavier instruments.
