Description
Stille Kidney Pedicle Clamp
A heavier pedicle clamp than the Guyon, with a pronounced angle between the jaws and the shank. The angle lifts the handles clear of the wound so the clamp can be left in place without the rings fouling the retractor or the assistant hand.
Where the angle helps
On a deep pedicle the limiting factor is often not the clamp but what the clamp gets in the way of. Carrying the handles up and out of the field is the whole argument for this pattern over a straight one, and it is why it is kept alongside rather than instead of the Guyon.
Jaws
Longitudinally serrated and substantial, sprung to close along their length. The ratchet holds firmly enough to be trusted through a long dissection.
Care
Angled instruments are awkward to brush and easily left with debris at the bend. Work the brush from both sides of the angle, confirm the jaws meet fully by holding the closed clamp to the light, and dry the joint before storage. Store with the ratchet off.
