Description
Kocher Seizing Forceps
The shorter of the two fenestrated seizing patterns stocked here, at 26.5 cm against the Collin at 28.5 cm. Same principle, slightly less reach, and a jaw profile that suits a field where the extra two centimeters of the Collin would put the handles somewhere awkward.
Jaws and hold
Wide jaws, each with a single opening, closing rim to rim. Tissue is held by being cradled rather than compressed, which is what allows the grip to survive traction without the jaw cutting in. The ratchet takes the effort out of holding, so the instrument can be handed to an assistant and left.
Choosing between Kocher and Collin
Reach is the only meaningful difference. Take the Kocher for a shallower field and the Collin when the structure is further in. Both carry the same jaw pattern, so a set built on one will match the other.
A note on naming
This pattern appears in the catalog under a heading for uterine seizing forceps, and is sold in urology as a kidney elevating forceps. The instrument does not change with the label. Match on dimensions and jaw pattern if you are completing an existing set.
