Description
Herrick Kidney Pedicle Clamp
The heaviest of the three pedicle clamps stocked here. Broad jaws and a substantial shank, intended for a bulky pedicle where a finer clamp would need more closing force than the tissue should take.
Why a heavier clamp
Clamping force is spread over the jaw face. A wider face holds the same pedicle at lower pressure per unit area, which is the argument for reaching for the Herrick on a thick or fatty pedicle rather than leaning harder on a slimmer instrument. The trade is bulk in the field, so it is chosen deliberately rather than by default.
Choosing among the three
Guyon for a straightforward pedicle, Stille where the handles need lifting clear, Herrick where the pedicle is bulky. All three are 23 cm in the stocked build, so reach is not the deciding factor.
Care
Brush along the serrations with the ratchet open and check jaw meeting against the light. On a heavy clamp the box joint carries real load, so look for play at the joint as well as at the tip. Dry fully, store with the ratchet released.
