Description
Lange-Hohmann Modified Bone Lever
The Lange-Hohmann bone lever is a modified Hohmann retractor with a broad blade. It hooks around bone and holds soft tissue clear for large exposures.
What the modification adds
Compared with a standard Hohmann, this version has a wider blade and a longer body. As a result, it holds more tissue and reaches deeper. The tip still hooks firmly around bone.
Two widths
Choose 30 mm or 33 mm. The difference is small, so feel and habit often decide. Besides, both suit hip and knee work.
Where the Lange-Hohmann bone lever fits
Joint replacement teams use it around the femur and tibia. Also, trauma surgeons use it to expose shaft fractures. Moreover, it pairs well with narrower Hohmann levers.
Placement tips
Seat the tip on bone under direct vision. Then lever gently, using the wound edge as a pivot. Release tension during long steps to protect skin and muscle.
Where it sits among Hohmann levers
Standard Hohmann levers run from narrow to very broad. Meanwhile, this modified version adds length at a middle width. Therefore it fills a gap for deeper approaches in larger patients.
