Kelly-Rankin Artery Forceps

Kelly-Rankin forceps pair a Kelly-style jaw with a 16 cm length. They give a little more reach than a standard Kelly.

Straight or curved

Straight jaws clamp in a direct line. By contrast, curved jaws help you work around tissue.

Kelly-style jaw

The serrations run along the distal part of the jaw, as on the Kelly.

A mid-length hemostat

At 16 cm, it bridges the gap between 14 cm hemostats and longer clamps.

Choosing between Rankins

The Crile-Rankin has serrations along the whole jaw. On the other hand, the Kelly-Rankin follows the Kelly pattern. So choose the one that matches the rest of your hemostats. Because the serrations sit on the distal jaw, the tip grips firmly while the heel stays smooth. As a result, you can clamp a vessel without crushing a long segment. Also, the 16 cm length works well in moderately deep fields where a 14 cm Kelly falls short.

Care of Kelly-Rankin forceps

Clean the jaws and joint after each case. Then dry the forceps fully and check the ratchet holds on every tooth.
