Description
Crile-Rankin Artery Forceps
Crile-Rankin forceps combine Crile-style serrated jaws with a 16 cm length. They sit between a standard Crile and a long hemostat.
Straight or curved
Choose straight jaws for a direct approach. Alternatively, choose curved jaws for a clearer view of the tips.
Why 16 cm
The extra length over a 14 cm Crile helps in slightly deeper wounds. However, it still handles like a standard hemostat.
Serrated jaws
The serrations hold vessels firmly without piercing them.
On the tray
Many general trays carry a row of Crile-Rankins alongside 14 cm hemostats. That way, the scrub team can hand up extra reach without switching to a heavy clamp. Also, a matching pair helps when you clamp both ends of a vessel. In addition, the extra length over a standard Crile keeps the rings clear of retractors. So the clamp suits wounds that are slightly deeper than a basic set allows. Then pair it with a shorter Crile for surface work.
Cleaning Crile-Rankin forceps
Rinse the jaws before blood dries. Then brush the serrations and joint, dry the forceps and store them open.
