Description
Kader Retractor
The Kader retractor holds back the abdominal wall and deeper tissue during open surgery. It measures 27.5 cm and comes in three blade widths.
Blade widths
Choose a blade width of 20, 30 or 40 mm for the job at hand. So the narrow blade fits a tight opening, while the wide one holds more tissue back. Also, all three widths share the same overall length.
Reach
At 27.5 cm, this retractor lets an assistant stand back from the wound. Then the blade reaches below the wall into deeper layers of the abdomen. As a result, the operating surgeon works with fewer hands in the way.
Hand-held control
An assistant can change angle and pull as the case moves from stage to stage. However, that means someone must hold it throughout the exposure. Therefore plan staff time for long cases.
Pairing with other tools
Many teams use a Kader retractor on one side and a wider blade on the other. Meanwhile, a malleable ribbon can keep bowel down below. That way each tool does one clear job.
Cleaning Kader retractor
Rinse the blade and handle soon after use, before blood dries. Next, clean the blade edges with a soft brush and rinse again under running water. Finally, dry it completely and store the three widths together.
