Jameson Muscular Forceps
Our Jameson muscular forceps is a 10 cm clamp for strabismus surgery. It grasps an extraocular muscle and holds it while you work. Because the hold stays steady, sutures go in where you plan. It is a long-standing pattern in muscle surgery.
A clamp for the muscle belly
Unlike a fine toothed forceps, the Jameson spans the muscle. So it controls the whole width at once. That matters during resection, when you measure and cut a set length. For example, a surgeon may clamp first, then measure the length to remove.
Hand position and reach
The 10 cm length lets you work over the globe without crowding the lids. Meanwhile, an assistant can hold the clamp while you suture. Keep the jaws flat to the sclera to avoid lifting the muscle too far.
Recession and resection
In a recession, the muscle moves back; in a resection, it becomes shorter. The clamp can help in both. Still, technique varies, so use it in the way your training and protocol suggest.
- 10 cm long
- Spans the width of a rectus muscle
- Helps in recession and resection
- Reusable after sterilisation
A careful clean
The jaws hold blood and tissue in their grooves. Therefore, scrub along them with a soft brush. Then rinse, dry and close the clamp to check alignment before packing it. Also, store it open in the tray, because a closed joint traps steam.
Jameson clamp: buying notes
It ships non-sterile, so sterilize it on arrival. Jameson clamps also carry three years against manufacturing defects. Jameson jaws use steel that conforms to ASTM F899. For a fine toothed grasp, consider the Troutman rectus forceps. See the eye instrument catalogue and our customer FAQs for more.
