Description
Troutman-Rectus Muscular Forceps, 1 x 2 Teeth
The Troutman rectus muscular forceps grips eye muscle tissue in strabismus surgery. It has 1 x 2 teeth at a 0.8 mm tip. So it takes a secure bite on the tendon or muscle without a wide crush. The overall length is 8.5 cm.
Teeth that hold tendon
A single tooth on one jaw closes between a pair on the other. As a result, the tip locks onto tough tendon without slipping. The 0.8 mm width gives a bit more purchase than very fine suture forceps.

Short body, close control
At 8.5 cm, the forceps sits low in the hand. That keeps your fingers close to the globe. Also, the short body moves easily between the lids when the speculum leaves little room.
When to pick it up
Use it to lift the muscle edge or hold the tendon near its insertion. Then it helps while you pass a suture or check the cut end. However, for a broad clamp across the muscle, use an advancement forceps instead.
Looking after the teeth
Fine teeth catch residue, so brush along them under running water. Next, check them with a loupe. If a tooth bends or breaks off, stop using the forceps, because it may tear tissue.
