Jameson Hooklets
Jameson hooklets follow the Jameson muscle hook design, which ends in a small, rounded knob. That knob helps keep the muscle on the hook as you lift it. So these hooks suit strabismus cases where a steady hold matters.
Why the Jameson knob tip helps
A plain hook can let a muscle slip off the end. The Jameson knob gives a small stop at the tip. As a result, you can lift and hold the muscle with more control. That makes suture placement easier and safer.
Jameson in a strabismus set
Most muscle sets hold two or three hook patterns. The Jameson often joins the Graefe or Green hooks. You might find the muscle with one hook, then secure it with a Jameson. However, every surgeon has their own order of steps. Try the Jameson at the point where your current hook tends to lose its grip on the muscle.
Jameson use points
- Pass the hook under the muscle from one edge.
- Let the knob clear the far edge before you lift.
- Keep traction smooth and light.
- Check that the knob is smooth after cleaning.
Jameson hook reprocessing
Give the knob tip special care, since tissue can cling to it. Soak the hooklets briefly in an enzyme cleaner, then brush the curve and knob. Rinse in clean water and dry. Jameson hooklets leave Atlanta non-sterile; process them in your autoclave before the first strabismus list. Each set then serves for many cases.
Jameson cover and more tools
