Description
Stevens Hooklets
Stevens hooklets follow the small Stevens tenotomy hook design. They let you pick up and hold fine tissue, such as Tenon’s capsule or a small muscle edge. Because they are small, they suit careful, close work.
A small hook for fine steps
Larger muscle hooks are great for finding and lifting a whole muscle. However, small steps often need a finer tool. The Stevens hooklet fills that gap, since its short curve reaches into spots a big hook cannot. For example, it can help you lift a muscle edge or tidy tissue before closure.
Pairing Stevens hooks in the muscle tray
Many surgeons pair Stevens hooks with larger Graefe or Jameson hooks. The large hook does the heavy lifting. Then the small Stevens hook handles the fine work. So a muscle tray with both covers most steps. You may also like a spare, since fine tips do wear with time and heavy use.
Stevens use notes
- Use a light, pencil grip.
- Slide the hook along tissue planes.
- Lift slowly to avoid tearing.
- Inspect the fine tip after each case.
Stevens cleaning and storage
Fine tips need careful cleaning. Wipe the Stevens tips with a damp sponge during the case so debris never sets. Afterwards, scrub each curve with a soft nylon brush and rinse well. Because the Stevens set is shipped to you non-sterile, run a full cycle before first use. Also store the hooklets where heavier tools cannot bend the tips.
Stevens warranty
Stevens hooklets have three years against manufacturing defects, and Stevens tips with a build fault get replaced. Our steel follows ASTM F899. See our eye surgery hooks, or the Jameson hooklets for a knob-tip option. Our help page answers order questions.
