Description
Hirschfeld Curettes & Files
A Hirschfeld periodontal file is a double-ended instrument for crushing and loosening heavy, tenacious calculus before final scaling. Our supplier lists the Hirschfeld pattern on its curettes and scalers pages, and this listing offers three options. Intrace USA stocks all of them in Atlanta, Georgia.
How a Periodontal File Works
Unlike a curette with one cutting edge, a file carries a series of small cutting edges on its working end. So, as the clinician pulls the instrument, those edges fracture a ledge of calculus into smaller pieces. Then a curette or scaler removes what remains and smooths the root. Because files work by pull strokes, they suit thick deposits more than fine finishing.
Choosing a Handle for the 3/7 Pairing
The standard option labelled Fig. 3/7 comes from one catalogue page. Its partner, labelled Fig. 3/7, Style 2, comes from the next. Style 2 is the same figure pairing on a different handle pattern, which the catalogue does not name. As a result, the choice depends on the handle you prefer. Compare the two photos side by side, especially if your cassette already contains other Hirschfeld instruments.
Adding the 5/11 Pairing
The option labelled Fig. 5/11 is a second Hirschfeld figure pairing, with different working ends from the 3/7. Many periodontal offices hold both pairings, since together they reach more surfaces around the arch. However, our listing gives only the figure label for this option. Therefore, check its photo to confirm the ends before ordering.
Inspection, Warranty and Processing
We inspect each Hirschfeld instrument by hand at our location in the United States. Furthermore, Fig. 3/7 and Fig. 5/11 alike earn three years against manufacturing defects, including the Style 2 handle. Each piece ships non-sterile; brush the working ends well, then sterilize before patient care.
